scandisk @ startup hangs

C

Chad

When I start my computer. (XP Home ed.) Scandisk runs. It
then tells me \Windows\Dump782d.tmp is cross-linked on
allocation unit 967838. Then it just hangs. Windows does
not start, and I have to shut the computer down. If I
skip the scandisk, the computer runs fine. Any ideas?
Thanks.

First off, why do you want to run scandisk at startup? Secondly Windows XP
does not have scandisk. It has been replaced by dskchk. Can you clarify?

.
You are correct, it is check disk. I don't want it to
run, it starts automatically, as if I did an improper shut
down.

You'll have to look for what is calling it. Check startup by clicking
start---run---type in msconfig--click OK. In the start up tab see if it is
listed. If so, remove the X.
You may also have to check the registry. More than likely it is there.
Click start---run----type in regedit---click OK.
Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\run
" " " " "
" " "---
" " " " "
" " " once
ETC for the following
" once ex

" run services
You get the point.
Post back if no luck!
