Saving photos to CD-RW

I am trying to save my digital photos to a CD-RW so that if need be, I can
work on them at a later date. However, when I put the CD-RW back into the
computer it tells me the files are read only. I have deleted the CD-RW gone
back to my photos, and into properties for the appropriate files and
deselected the read only option, click on apply and OK. When I check that
the folder has taken the change for read only to be deselected, it still
shows read only as being checked. Am I doing anything wrong or do I need to
do something else as well?
Any help will be most appreciated.

Going to Properties for each photo and deselecting the read only is OK, but
why not going to the Properties of the folder and deselecting read only
there so it affects the entire folder?

Thanks for the reply, but I should have mentioned in the original question,
that I have tried both the individual photo's and the folder selecting the
properties and deselecting read only. Both have proved negative!
Any other suggestions?
