Saving Outlook 2003 email as HTML?

Hi ! Outlook phone support couldn't answer this one, although it could have
been a language issue. Anyway here's my question: Is there a way to save an
Outlook email to My Documents as a html file and still be able to view the
images/pictures contained therein? When I save an email thusly from somebody
in my Contacts list, the pictures become white boxes with a red "X" in the
corner, and there is no way to view the picture. HTML seems to be the default
file type in the "Save file as:" drop down menu. When I save the email as an
..oft (template) file, it is saved as an exact copy of the email which I can
open without opening Outlook. I am saving these files to My Docs. The part I
really don't understand is if I save an email that is a newsletter, and save
it as an HTML file, all the pictures are retained and are visible when I open
the saved file. I know I can save these emails in a folder within Outlook,
but sometimes I want them separate from Outlook. I guess I just want to know
why it doesn't always work. I know how to save the pictures as a .bit or
..jpg, but that's not what I want to do. Thanks, Jimmy.

I would save it as a MSG file, thus it will automatically open as an
Outlook email message. This would also preserve the original message
headers.

Thanks for the response Pat. I tryed saving the same emails on my laptop on
which I use Outlook Expess for email. The default "Save as type:" file is
..eml. I saved one as an .eml file. These are easily opened and show all the
pictures. Saving as a HTML is a drop down option. This saves them in a file
that has a Word icon, but when you open it Internet Explorer opens the file,
but the pictures are still not visible. When I save an email in Outlook as an
html and then open it, Internet Explorer opens it and the pictures are not
visible. Logic tells me html is an internet thing but I still don't
understand why the pictures aren't visible. Bye the way, saving emails as an
msg file is not an option in Outlook or Outlook Express. I think I have
exhausted this train of thought and will simply save them as an .eml or an
..oft. Jimmy.
