Saving Files for the Next Generation

I have a lot of family videos that I captured through Movie Maker, Imported
into Nero, made it pretty with chapters and titles and saved the project to
DVD and my computer. Now what. I have a lot of large files taking up space
on my Hard drive that I want to get rid of. What happens when technology
changes and DVDs are replaced. Is the best format to copy onto the future
technology my DVD or should I save the Movie Maker raw version as something
else to avoid losing quality? Or what do you recommend to preserve quality?

I personally have all my videos backed up onto DVD's plus I don't reuse my
DV tapes but instead save them in case I need the videos again for
something. All my DVD backups are dated with the intention of copying the
files to my computer and then burning them to new DVD's after 5 years or so
just to be safe.
Optionally you could also save your edited stuff back to DV tapes as well or
instead of saving the originals if you prefer so that you wouldn't have to
do all the editing again from the original footage.
