Saving A File From A Website

S

Scott

On my Win XP Pro desktop, when I go to download an application or file from
a website, I click on Save, it saves it to the desktop. How can I get the option
back to save it to the folder of my choice?

Thanks!

First, you go to the Wrenches icon under the Toolbox icons. The open end
ones, not the adjustables. There, you choose the spongie-looking
thingie. Open the Soak window from there. Tell it to soak up directories
you can save folders to and squeeze the sponge out over the downloads.
If that's no help, you might try:

I hacked into your computer and see that you're using Windows NT 5.0;
browser, but you don't say anything about that being the one you're
asking about.

And then try posting something useful, no offense. Right now there are
as many answers to your question as there are different browsers; minus

If this doesn't work I'll think of something else.

Create then merge this registry file to restore the
"Always Ask Before Opening This Type of File" dialog
box.

1. Copy below and paste into Notepad.

----------copy inside only----------
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\AttachmentExecute]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\AttachmentExecute]

----------copy inside only----------

2. Save-as OpenAsk.reg (or any name + .reg)

3. Double-click or right-click and merge into the registry.

Wow, I've been using the Registry Editor for ten years and didn't know that
you could delete keys with regfiles, I have never [ever] seen that done
before!! Cheers matey! I really mean that - cheers (small things please
[geeky] small minds like mine). It's like the scales have fallen from my
eyes!!!...

P.S. Does this also work in Win98 (Regedit4)?

P.P.S. Did YOU know that if you want Regedit to import a regfile without
any dialogue asking you if you want to import it, then use:

Regedit.exe /s myfile.reg

Did you? I really hope I've had the opportunity of passing on something
useful back to you.

What exactly do you mean: "copu inside only"? Does that mean I should omit the

No. It means to copy the 5 lines (3 lines of text and 2 blank lines)
between the '---copy inside only---' lines.

J

You'd never believe how many iterations of that instruction
I tested before settling on this one, "-----copy inside only-----"

Just copy between the lines.

Here's a quicker method for you.

Copy the strings below and paste into the Run box, one at a time:

reg delete HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\AttachmentExecute /f

reg add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\AttachmentExecute

I thought it was pretty well self-explanatory what the "copy inside only"
lines mean and you'd only need some help with it if you were, in fact, a

Scott,
I wasn't criticizing anyone personally, never brought an accusation,
why do I deserve to be singled out for special attention. What have I ever
done to you? I just thought it was needless criticism in the first place.
Or, put it another way, are you going to respond to this when it's not
necessary, and tell me something bad about myself that I didn't know before.

Scott,
Countless people have asked for clarification on some things that

well self-explanatory, what 'ju.c' meant when he asked Tim to

Al,
I wasn't having a go (well, I suppose I was a bit) but I just get upset
at people nit-picking at what others have said, quite often needlessly so.
I just wanted to register my displeasure, but then, in doing that, I am
doing exactly the same thing as what I am objecting to in the first place -
so I'm a hypocrite for the chimp remark, I know. I will try my very best to
avoid rising to the "BAIT" next time.

Tim,
Calm down. Try not to be so blind that you fall into that pit.
Keep well away from any thread discussing PCButts or his aliases.
That topic is way out of your depth.

If you try to reason with trolls, they will drag you down to their level,
laughing and pointing at you as they do so.
If you just ignore them, they will never know if you even read their dross.

Over the years, I have seen an obscene amount of injustice, incompetence,
arrogance, retards, weasels, impostors, impersonators and trolls here.
It is hard to believe, but I suspect that most of those chimpanzees are
actually real people pretending to type 'The Complete Works of Shakespeare'
