save html files as .doc files with embedded images?

Hi:

I'm creating an online-user manual for an in-house
software application at a social services agency. The
manual is written in Frontpage and is posted on an
intranet website. (We run on Windows XP and Office XP)

People have asked for a print copy of the manual, so I
thought I could just open the .html files with Word XP,
then save the loaded page as a .doc file. When I do this
and send the file to others, the images are all gone,
replaced by just outlines.

The .doc file is very small, indicating that Word is not
embedding the images, but rather, maps (links) to the
location of the image on my hard drive.

Can I force WordXP to embed images into the .doc file so
that it can be printed with images anywhere? I can't seem
to find the switch/option to do this. All the
documentation I've read is for people wanting to convert a
Word (.doc) file into html, but I'm going the other way
around.

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated/

While the images are displayed in the Word document, select each and press
Ctrl+Shift+F9. This will unlink the graphic and embed it in the document. Be
aware that this will greatly increase file size.

Am I missing something ... the original file is in HTML. I conclude
this when you say "written in FrontPage". Why not just print it from the
web page with the browser. Why add the complexity of Word?

I thought of this, however, in WinXP, when you print with
IE, it just prints basically a screenshot (with all
frames) of whats on screen. If your webpage extends
beyond the screen it won't print. You used to be able to
select a frame and print it, but it doesn't work like that
anymore. You have to go to IE's print preview, then
manually select the the frame to display/print, then print.

The people I am writing the manual for are extremely low
tech (they are homecare case managers - nurses/social
workers by trade - for most, this job is their first/only
exposure to computers (I know, I found it hard to believe
at first) and their computer training has consisted of
classes like "how to use a mouse properly" - really).

As such, I need to make the language and distribution of
my manual very simple - hence, the interest in converting
the webpages to fully encapsulated .doc files - easier to
click and print a hard copy of what you need.

Suzanne:

Thanks for the tip! I'll try it.

Do you know if there is a way to 'select all' and do this
is a batch operation for the whole document?

Thanks again,

If there are no other fields in the document, you can indeed Ctrl+A and
Ctrl+Shift+F9. This would unlink any hyperlinks (which are probably the only
other fields you would have in an HTML file), but since there's no way for
users to click on them in a printed doc anyway, it wouldn't matter.
