SATA slowdown?

I put in a SATA drive thinking this will be faster, and after
reinstalling windows xp and running hdtach i can see the program tells
me i have fast drive ... BUT - the system is more sluggish now than it
used to be... any ideas?

Is it possible windows think "Oh, a program wants to write 1 byte to the
drive lets divert 99% of system resources to write that byte" so in a
multitasking environemnt it ends up being slow?

(Obviously I'm not downloading or moving vast amounts of data around at
the time)

What do you have running now that you didn't before?

Process Explorer may help you identify what is using CPU cycles.
