SATA power from molex 4pin?

Do SATA drives really use the 3.3 volt power line? Or can you use a
molex->SATA power adapter with most drives?

You can use the 4-pin converter. But take care
that unlike the SATA power connector, 4-pin Molex is
not hot-pluggable (well, it is, but it may literally
blow up your device....).
