SATA Port Legacy or Native IDE mode?

My motherboard has the option "Set SATA Port 0~3 to operate at [Legacy /
Native] IDE mode." The default is Legacy, which seems a bit odd.

Any thoughts?

I suspect your MB is giving you the option to run your SATA drive in ATA
compatible mode. That would allow for installing an OS for which you didn't
have the SATA drivers. You could then get those drivers, install them and
take the HDD out of ATA compatibility mode.
