Can anyone pint me in the direction of a free disk cloning utility to clone
one Maxtor to a WD. I trid the MaxBlast software an it omitted necessary
files and a program by Miray (sp) sees the target asmaller. It realisnt it
just has a hidden partition.

I am looking for a Ghost type program run off a floppy. a real simple
program that ll identify the drive mfgr. and run automatically.

Hard drive manufacturer's provide many programs. MaxBlast did not work - did
you check the WD web site?

Also, search Google for disk cloning programs.

Casper XP is a dedicated cloning utility that you can download for
a free 30-day trial. It doesn't run off a floppy, though. It runs under
Windows from the any hard disk in the system, even the one being
cloned. See www.FSSdev.com/products/casperxp/ .

As with any WinXP/NT/2K clone, don't let the clone see its
"parent" OS when the clone is started up for the first time.
After the clone has run once, you can re-connect the old HD.
The PC will boot using whichever HD is at the head of the
HD boot order. The boot.ini file will control where the loader
goes looking for the OS. If the clone is put in the same position
as the original HD, it will behave exactly as the original HD by
supplying the OS to be loaded.

Thanks. I did the Casper clone and it worked quite well. I didnt realize I
would need to re-activate all Adobe sooftware and some MSOffice 2003 stuff.
Thanks for the advice. I think the re-activation is due to me going from
a Maxtor to a WD. It seems to see the drive and realize this is a new
machine.

I'm glad it worked out. And thanks for the information about the
need for reactivation. I wouldn't have expected that just a change in
hard drive brand would trigger reactivation.
