SATA Backward Compatible?

I have a MB with SATA I on it at 150 MB/s. Can I use a SATA II drive on
the SATA I controller.
From what I read SATA is backward compatible which I take to mean that
a SATA II drive on that MB will work and run at the SATA I speed.

I don't mean to ask stupid questions, but sometimes.....

Yes, but check the drive data sheets. Some require you jumper it to tell
the drive you want to run SATA I.
