My Samsung printer has been working flawlessly, 100% jam-free, until
this evening. (Could it be that we are working on our tax return?)

Suddenly, every page comes out almost blank. Test pages, such as the
printer's "Demo" page or font list, come out with characters printed
out very light, and printed with a "semi-outline" appearance because
most of the letter's shape is not actually printed.

If I run say 4-5 pages at a time through the printer, it stops in
mid-page with this error message "HSync Engine Error" which is not in
the user manual. Googling on this exact phrase gives me exactly 1
hit. A Russian language site that I think is selling refill toner or
replacement toner cartridges. (I can't read Russian too well.)

Power-cycling the printer did not help.

Taking out the Postscript SIMM did not help.

What gives? Am I about to new a new printer? If so, I'll be really
torqued. This printer has done maybe 25K total prints since it was
born.

Well, Davy, I did give the toner cart a good shaking-around. That's
always the very first "printer diagnostic" that I do when there are
printer output problems. No differences, unfortunately.

(Perhaps I should try one of the Rolling Stones?)

As a "last resort," akin to asking for driving directions, I actually
called Samsung tech support, and got a person on the line without more
than 30 seconds of hold time. The support person told me immediately
that the problem was either the main system board or the fusing board,
a/k/a LSU. The fix is about $170 either way. I drove the printer
over to a local support location just yesterday.

I am sorry that no one had a more inventive answer for me, like take
out the circuit boards and recite voodoo spells. :)

We once sent a Samsung printer out for repair of the same type of
problem. Unfortunately it didn't help. I hope you have better luck. We
ended up getting a new different brand printer.

Well, I got the printer back from the service place almost two weeks
ago now. It has been working flawlessly, except for a few "normal" PS
boo-boos.
