You might want to try a repair install selecting fast repair as described in the
link below. You want to select the repair option before the EULA by booting from
the install cd Even if you do not have the ERD disk, the repair installation
will try to repair the registry/sam from the \winnt\repair folder that was
created at initial installation. Read the whole KB link to understand what the
