"safeguard protect"

The "safeguard protect" BHO is removed by this program,
but only partially, so every time you reboot, anti-spyware
finds it AGAIN.

Pest Patrol reports a number of registry clsid entries to
delete to eradicate this BHO, and some of those entries
are in fact in my registry after MS anti-spyware claims it
has removed the BHO.

Does anyone know if the Pest Patrol list is accurate? If
it is, why does not MS anti-spyware remove them as well?
It is atedious and possibly dangerous evening's
entertaiment to do it by hand.

Try running a full system scan in Safe Mode. On the Scan Page, choose Scan
Options > Full System Scan.
Remember to turn of system restore before entering safe mode and re-enable
back after scanning.

The link you sent me to solved my problem. I rebooted and
when the BHO was identified again, I allowed it rather
than remove it. THEN I went to the menu described in this
link and clicked on the BHO. It said file not found
because the dll had been removed (by me!) without properly
unregistering that dll. I clicked permanently remove, as
suggested, and rebooted. No more reference to the BHO.
Anti-spyware must have unregistered it as I should have
done in the first place. Thanx

No, that was for the safe mode scan for antispyware.

If you turn off your system restore you loose
all your system snapshots.

This is not something basic todo with every faults
within a system. We can compare this as to use a chainsaw
to cut a flower and even that you misses this particular
flower and take all others when you try.

Its much better to do this in a more step by step order
with different tools as described on this page.

I know that a lot of rubbish hides within system restore
files but we cant remove system restore as first advice.

You must remember to turn on back System Restore after rebooting back into
normal mode, sometimes malicious programs can also be saved into system
restore snap shots.
