safe mode

while i was in safe mode i tried to reinstall off the
original xp disc. now a box comes up saying can not
install windows xp in safe mode

Did you try following the instructions I posted?

One added point, since you seem stuck in safe mode, try hitting
ctrl-alt-delete, if that doesn't bring up a box that will let you restart
and follow my instructions, if your system has a reset button use that, if
not, your only choice is the power button.
