Hi,

Stop Error Screen mentions Safe Mode and in Memory to Disable Caching and
Shadowing. But I've entered BIOS many times and never can find Safe Mode.

Where is Safe Mode, please?

You can enter Safe Mode by pressing F8 _just_ before Windows loads

When I do that and hold down on F8 my machine just beeps rapidly. So, then I
always release and then WindowsXP loads as usual.

Safe mode is not in the BIOS.

Think: "... suddenly there came a tapping, as if someone gently rapping,
rapping at my chamber door. 'Tis some visitor,' I muttered, 'tapping at my
chamber door. Only this and nothing more. What should I do, I wonder, Abort,
retry, ignore?"

Or think CPR: "Push, release, push, release, push, release (deep breath
here), push, release...."

"Ah distinctly I remember, it was in the bleak November ..."

Biermanoski should note that the BIOS is not part of Windows. It's
effectively part of the computer's hardware and, to modify its settings, it
has to be entered before Windows even starts to boot. As HeyBub says, Safe
mode has nothing to do with this; it is a mode that Windows can run in.

You need to press F8 at exactly the right time, after the opportunity to
enter the BIOS, and just as Windows begins to load. It's a very short window
of opporunity, and it's hard to know exactly when to do it, so the easiest
thing to do is just continually tap the F8 key when you start the computer.
If you tap about twice a second or so, one of those taps will occur at the
right time.
