Sabrent messed up my sound

I recently tried to install a Sabrent TV capture box that was worthless. As I
uninstalled, I came up with a nasty problem -- any sound that uses software
caching runs slow and scratchy. Most sounds that use hardware caching, such
as Windows Media Player, run just fine. But the regular XP sounds and my
audio recording/editing software (CoolEdit 2000) sound horrible. I've run
Registry Mechanic and rolled back my registry to pre-install. I have also
downloaded and reinstalled DirectX. Any thoughts that can restore my audio?
Thanks

In a case like this, I would use the Device Manager to "remove" your sound
card. When done, reboot and let XP "find" it again and install drivers.
This may clear up your sound problem.

Thanks. Turns out that RealTek had updated drivers available, so I downloaded
those and reloaded -- that fixed the problem. Very similar to your solution,
but I get updated drivers out of the deal!

Thanks again.
