Runtime error

J

JustUs

Whenever I reboot I get the following error:
iexpore
Runtime error '53'
file not found

The following error has occured a few times:
iexpore
Runtime error '62'
input past end of file

iexpore is the title of the dialog box that appears - this is NOT misspelled.

I do not seem to have any stability problems, programs all seem to work
fine. Virus app runs 24/7, no malware detected.

Ideas?

What is the Report on the problem in Event Viewer?

Please post complete copies of all Error and Warning Reports appearing
in the System and Application logs in Event Viewer for the last boot. No
Information Reports or Duplicates please. Indicate which also appear in
a previous boot.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer.

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from
Event Viewer.

There are NO errors or warnings. I cleared all and rebooted with the same
results - NO errors or warnings. I removed a couple of ie toolbar addins
without change, also disabled PestPatrol, and other apps in the systray
without change as well. Ran my reg cleaner - no change. Can't seem to find
what program the runtime error is refering to. :(

Are the settings in Event Viewer allowing for the maximum recording of
Error Reports?

Open Event Viewer, right click, select Properties, Filter tab. Also
select Start, Control Panel, System, Advanced, Error Reporting, Enable
Error Reporting and confirm All Programs without exceptions has been
selected.

Not something I have used but have you looked in the Dr Watson log?

Gerry -
Thanks for the reply.

I changed the settings for Event Viewer and deleted the Dr. Watson log as
nothing was current. After rebooting and checking the logs, there were no new
error in Event Viewer and no log created for Dr W.

Here is an error that has been in System for some time:
The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:
Partizan
sptd

Have done a lot of searching in the past for a fix for this error, but
nothing of value. Perhaps you have an idea.

Thanks again,
Don

Partizan = Spyware Doctor. What is the status of this programme on your
machine?

sptd

These driver seem likey to remnant of software which have been
uninstalled. You could use Autoruns to look to see if it is referenced
there.

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/ProcessesAndThreads/Autoruns.mspx

With Autoruns you can uncheck an item, which disables it from starting,
or you can can right click an item and then delete it. If you uncheck
you can recheck to re-enable the item. It is a much safer approach than
editing the Registry. Another useful feature of the programme is that
you can right click an item and select Search Online to get information
about the item selected.

Gerry - Thanks for the reply.

Spyware Doctor is no longer on my system. Well, except for some remnants
left behind.

I chose to disable sptd rather than remove. Easier to fix if an app needs it.

I will give autoruns a try and see what comes up.

Again - THANKS!!

There IS a fix/solution for the "expore" runtime error (was for my
situation). I have been having that problem for a few months. All scans show
no malware, virus, or other pest issues. But in a search after a small crash
yesterday and my system desktop continually refreshing, I was able to do a
restore from a 3rd party app I use as MS System Restore was disabled by the
threat. Don't ask me how the little pest got in, cause it was a bonehead
error on my part. Anyway, I did a Google and up pops "www.Greatis.com". I ran
the "reanimator" as directed and the issue is gone. It turns out that the
runtime error is a result of virus software only removing part of the
installed files. Reanimator removed the remains and all is OK now. The main
file was located in Windows\System32 named "iexplore.exe". And yes it is
spelled correctly. The real IE executable is in Program Files ...

Hope this helps!
