Running WXP Pro, getting shutdown NT Authority/system message

I'm running XP Pro, recently did a fresh install. Every couple of days I am
working on my computer and then I receive a popup error stating "system
shutdown was initiated by NT Authority\system", it states that an error
occured in c:\\winows\system32\services.exe" terminated unexpectedly with
status code 1073741819. I am totally clueless. I've read that it may be a
virus, but I'm running Norton Anti-Virus 2005, done full system scans, etc.
and it still occurs. Any help is appreciated.

In my opinion, Norton 2005 is one of the WORST Anti-Virus
programs out there. I don't know anyone who is using it or
who has used it who is happy.

I've heard a dozen complaints about 2004, 2005, and 2005,
and never a good word about any of them.

Remove Norton 2005 and install something like AVAST4, which
is FREE, and which you can get on

www.download.com

And I'll probably get yelled at, but if you've just done a
fresh install, before you get too much "re-setup", *I* would
do another "fresh install",

and I'd load Norton SystemWorks 2003,

NOT 2005.

Look for Norton System Works 2003 on Ebay or Amazon.

It can be had cheap. Load EVERYTHING BUT AV.

That is, go through custom install and UNCHECK AV.

Be sure you have AdAware and be sure you have SpyBot

I'd also install a good Registry Cleaner or two.

You can get Reg Cleaner FREE on

www.download.com

You can also get CCleaner (Crap Cleaner) for free, I
believe it is also on

www.download.com

not sure of that.

Good luck!

Hi,

It *is* a virus - namely sasser, please see:

http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_125007.htm
http://www.trendmicro.com/vinfo/virusencyclo/default5.asp?VName=WORM_SASSER.A

To stop the shutdown, click start/run, type "shutdown -a" (without the
quotes) and click ok.

Details on the patch needed to prevent it:

according to the error message, it was something in your
registry files or your main booting hardware file that
caused NT Authority to activate & do a reboot which is
usually the case if it picks it up in the system usually
from the internet. all computer systems will have this
done to them someway it's just a small security feature
for the user's safety.

Ridiculous waste of electrons, as usual. Troll.
