If it runs under Win9x -- the chances are extremely high that it will run under WinXP.

Depends on the program. I run a lot of made-for-98 programs that give
little, if any, problems. You might have to right click on the .exe and
choose the compatibility mode to be 9x.

Generally speaking, if it runs in 95/98, it should run in XP. What program
in particular are you having trouble running?

Thanks for the reply. I'm trying to run "Smart Start French Deluxe" which is
produced by Syracuse Language for Windows 98 or 95

Certainly. For the vast majority of such programs, no upheabva;
of any kind is required. They will run just as a newer program
will.

An occasional program can only be run in compatibility mode, and
a very few can't be run at all (mostly older disk utilties).

A lot will directly. For others use All Programs - Accessories -
Program Compatibility Wizard, browse to the relevant .exe and say to run
in mode for Win95 or Win98

You may still find that there are some that just will not run; legacy
items that try to access hardware direct, or programs with 16 bit
drivers that are just not permitted by XP
