RUNDLL32.EXE w72ea2bc.dll Missing ....

Hi there,

My computer recently was hit by a virus of some kind, but i sucessfully
removed it, i used about 4 anti-viruses \ ad-aware programs...
But after this virus, whenever i restart or open my computer, or laptop to
be more specific, other than hibernating, a small dialog box appears saying
the following :

________________________________[ X ]
|
RUNDLL32.EXE w72ea2bc.dll is missing |
|
____________[ OK ]___________________

Thats it ...

Its annoying, and i dont really know what it means, i guess it some sort of
a missing file released or needed for the virus somehow, i dont really know
whats the function of that dll file...
To remove that message, i did the following :

Clicked start, went to run.
Typed MSCONFIG
Click on StartUp Tab
Searched for the dll file, this how it looked :

[ ] RUNDLL32 RUNDLL32.EXE w72ea2bc.dll,n 003ba8d20000000a72ea2bc

The small square is a check box .. So i removed the check mark so that it
wont load in the start up.... Disabled it .
Is it ok to disable this DLL file ???
Does it pose a threat on my Laptop's Hardware or anything ..

-Please help me with this problem. __Thank you

Hi Zak
rundll32.exe is a process which executes DLL's and places their libraries
into the memory, so they can be used more efficiently by applications. This
program is important for the stable and secure running of your computer and
should not be terminated.
rundll32.exe is a process registered as a backdoor vulnerability which may
be installed for malicious purposes by an attacker allowing access to your
computer from remote locations, stealing passwords, Internet banking and
personal data. This process is a security risk and should be removed from
your system.
Determining whether this process is a virus or a legitimate Windows process
depends on the directory location it executes or runs from.
I believe you still have some residual infection as the w72ea2bc.dll if
memory serves me correctly is part of a malicious tool. Do a serach for
rundll32 and see if there are more than 1 instances of it. If there is post
the locations on here and we will see if we can spare you a reinstall.

Hi again,

Thanks Joe for your info, and Ted, other than saying " your still infected "
i would appreciate if you gave me more detail...
Anyway, Joe, i searched for the Rundll32.exe and i found these :

RUNDLL32.EX_ C:\WINDOWS\I386
RUNDLL32.EXE-41C4C933.pf C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch
RUNDLL32.EXE-5ACE91DC.pf C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch
RUNDLL32.EXE-71AB9752.pf C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch
rundll32.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32
rundll32.exe.mui C:\WINDOWS\mui\FALLBACK\0404

These are the objects that were found, does this mean that my laptop is
still infected with a virus or a trojan ??

I sometimes get a message from norton that a virus was detected, after a
dialog box appears asking me to install a strange anti-virus program, but i
keep click on : Dont Install, is this from the work of the backdoor program
infecting my system >?
I got important information on my laptop, which is really dont want to lose.

Please help me with this problem

Cheers,

Zak

Try using bitdefender at bitdefender.com, they give you a free scan and find
a olot of what Norton misses. They also remove the virus. Read the
warnings. If they cannot fix the virus they delete the file. It works!
