RUNDLL32.exe hang

S

simon

I am faily new to XP Pro. (3 months), I use auto-update
and have installed all of the security hotfixes.
Following the last two KB824105 & KB824146 every time I
try to delete the temporary internet files RUNDLL32,exe
hangs.
I have tried several methods to delete them:-
1) internet options -delete temporary files,
2) disk clean up,
3) Internet - options advanced - security - delete temp
files when closing browser.

Following the hang some strange things happen:-
1) with the disk clean up utility, it would not cancel so
I stopped from the appplications window in task manager,
but it was still running in the process window using 100%
cpu.
2) If trying to delete when the browser closes, the
browser window closes, but when you shut down the PC, XP
reports it is closing an nu responive program (IE6).
3) Other applications may or may not launch - control
panel to name but 1.

After a reststart everthing is fine until I try to delete
the temp internet files, then it all starts again.

I have sent the failure reports to MS,I have restored to a
point before the updates, Uninstalled as many of the hot
fixes/KBxxxx as possible, Uninstalled NIS2004, but none
helped.
They have now all been reinstalled but still only issue is
deleting the temp internet files.

Between MS support and the OEM (Big name) I get the
feeling that I am going round in ever decreasing circles
and am about to disapear somewhere extreamly unpleasent.

I have cut and pasted the error event log for the 22/09
&23/09 whilst I have been trying to fix this issue. Should
any one have the inclination to plough through it, and
suggest a fix, before I end up in that unpleasent, dark,
warm, moist unpleasent place.
