Rundll32.exe & defrag errors.........................

S

Error when shutting down. Rundll32.exe will not shut down.
Also I am no longer able to defrag, It will analyze and go into the
defrag process for a while then go to the black screen telling me I
have a system failure. Are these 2 problems related? Any ideas?
Sure would appreciate some advice, thanks.

Hi,

They could be related, as both problems sound like interference from a
background process. Before
shutting down, hit ctrl+shift+escape and end all running applications. Then
try shutting down. If it goes ok, then the problem is one of the
applications. If not, then repeat, this time killing a few lines on the
processes tab. Continue this until you isolate which application or process
is causing the problem (hint: start with killing processes associated with
your antivirus product, these are often the cause). Once you know what is
causing it, you will need to address it with the maker of the product.

I don't have the answer to your posted question, but I
also have the problem of Rundll32.exe not shutting down.
It started a few days ago AFTER I defragmented my hard
drive??? I close the process via my Taskmanager every time
I shut down my pc, but the error keeps returning.

Now at least you're not alone in your quest for answers!
