Run32.dll - Bad Image error

The other day my desktop icons reverted to the default. They had been set to
various *.ico files. I went to change them back, but upon trying to set the
My Documents icon, I get the following error:

Run32.dll - Bad Image
The application or DLL [path to the icon file] is not a valid Windows image.
Please check this against your installation diskette.

This happens no matter which icon I point My Documents to. I've scanned for
viruses, run chkdsk /f, and run sfc /scannow. Nothing helped. What's
strange is late yesterday the problem seemed to fix itself ... I was able to
set the icon without getting an error. But this morning my icons reverted
again and I got the same error.

I checked Microsoft's site but cannot find anthing related to this specific
error. I'm also confused that it seems to think the *.ico file is an
application or a DLL.

I'm running Dell 4500 with XP Pro. I don't have a "real" XP installation
disk, just the "restore disk". I did recently upgrade to a bigger hard drive
and installed a DVD burner, but they both seem to be working fine; no other
apparent issues.

I know it's not a huge deal to have my desktop icons customized, but I'm a
little worried it's a sign of a bigger problem.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,

Jeff
