Run chkdsk on data drive

I have a system drive (40 GB) IDE and a data drive (80 GB) ATA100 parallel
and I want to run check disk on the data drive. Both are NTFS drives.
Anything that I try from the Start/Run command space give me the error that
the drive is an NTFS drive.

I also tried running chkdsk from the Recovery Console but it will check on
the boot drive and I don't want to make the data drive a boot drive.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

What error? What is the command you're running?

Go start/run and type in cmd then hit enter
put in the data drive letter and hit enter [like d: then enter]
NOW type chkdsk /f and hit enter

I would guess you were just doing chkdsk which is informative and not
corrective.
