Run a DLL as an App-rundll32.exe - error message on boot up

S

Sam Lewis

When I boot up my pc it now shows an error message:

"Run a DLL as an App has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are
sorry for the inconvenience."
Further error details: AppName: rundll32.exe AppVer: 5.1.2600.2180
ModName: x10net.dll

Does anyone know what this means, what things on my computer would not work
properly due to this error, and what if anything needs to be done?

Further Info:

1) I gather from looking around the net that this is a legitimate process
and sometimes it can be a virus. The information starts to become too
technical for me. I have run my up-to-date virus scanner which was all
clear.

2) I have looked at msconfig which appears to be a troubleshooting method to
diagnose symptoms. At the moment I cannot define any problems/symptoms as
such apart from the error message on start-up.Everything seems to work as
before.

3)Pentium 4 XP Pro sp2

TIA

Hi,

It's a problem with your ATI drivers. Try reinstalling and/or updating them.

This probably means that some malware has been removed, leaving the line
in startup that ran rundll32 in order to load the malware.

Start - Run - MSConfig.exe and on the Startup page, look in the Command
column for rundll32.exe and uncheck the line. Exit - do not bother to
reboot, but next time you do there will be a message about 'System
Configuration'. Check the 'Do not show again' box and exit
