Hi,
I have problem with rules and alerts.
I have created some rules, in which i have specified some email Id, whenever
i recieve mail from that particular ID that should automatically go to
specified folders.
But the problem is every time i have to go to Tools-->Rules and
alerts--->and click on the Run Rules Now.
I want to make this automatic, whenever i opened outlook the mails which is
stored in inbox should moved to Specified folder.
Please tell me how to make this Rules automatic instead of mannual.

Thanks,
Vishu

Rules run automatically when messages arrive in the Inbox, so if you have
the rule enabled, if a message matching the rule arrives, the rule should
handle it at that point. Are you saying that that doesn't happen?

How do you know they don't run? Do you have new, unread messages that you
believe should trigger the rules?

Hi brian,

I have some unread message in my inbox. When open my outlook, still its
appearing in Inbox instead moving to respective folders. Once go to Tools and
press the option Run Rules Now, then it will move to respective foders.
I am using Outlook 2003.

If I knew all my rules were enabled (i.e., there was a check mark in front
of them), were this happening to me, I'd do a number of things. First, I'd
export my rules, start Outlook with the /cleanrules command line switch,
then reimport the rules. Second I'd try a new mail profile. After that,
I'd export my rules, create a new PST, move all the data from the old to the
new, stop and restart Outlook, then reimport the rules.

This is frustrating, because the rules actually do work, but they don't
process automatically. You can clean out your corrupted registry entries, or
what ever is causing the problem by one command. But before you do that,
consider how many rules you have, and how easy it will be to recreate them.
It's super easy to export your rules to a file on your desktop, just click on
the options button from your rules and alerts screen, and export from there.

After your rules are backed up, simply click on START, RUN.
Type:

outlook /cleanrules

All of your rules will be gone, but you can import them back in easily, and
they WILL work. Take it from me, this is a great switch to clean out the
corruption. There's tons of other outlook switches which are both powerful
and helpful, that will accomplish a similar result in other areas with the
application. Check out the following URL:
