RSS download issues in Outlook 2007

Hi,

I am having some problems with Outlook 2007 redownloading RSS feeds. Here
are the types of problems that I have seen:

- A notification is immediately redownloaded as soon as I delete it.
- Several copies of the same notification are downloaded.
- Occasionally, a dump of old notifications, such as from a month ago, is
downloaded.

Unfortunately, I don't know enough about how RSS works to understand where
the problem is. Can this be fixed by adjusting some setting in Outlook? Or
does the RSS feed need to be adjusted? Or is this an Outlook bug?

BTW, I am running Windows Vista, which might also factor into the equation.

Thanks,
I. Kinal

Disable the integration with the system feed, delete your Outlook RSS
subscriptions and RSS folders (not the default RSS rootfolder). Then restart
Outlook and subscribe to your feeds again (or import from an OPML file).

To disable system feed sync;
Tools-> Options-> tab Other-> button Advanced Options...

Also disable the option below that (updates items appear as new item)

Thanks! I will give it a shot and will see if that fixes it.

Hi,

I agree with Robert's suggestions. Try that and get back here if they do
not work.

Below is more information for your reference:

More Information:
==============

In order to keep Common Feed List feeds from being added back into Outlook
- and possibly creating duplicates - all synchronized feeds are maintained
in the <profilename>.xml.kfl file. This file is stored in the following
folder:

\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook

When Outlook 2007 performs synchronization with the Common Feed List, any
feeds already listed in the <profilename>.xml.kfl file are not added to
Outlook. Any new feeds added to Outlook are also added into this file.

This is also the mechanism that keeps feed removed from Outlook (but still
in the Common Feed List) from being re-synchronized back into Outlook. If
you remove a feed from the Common Feed List it is also removed from the
<profilename>.xml.kfl file.

===============

Hope it can help you learn more about RSS feeds!

Leon Hao

Unfortunately, these steps have not solved my problem. One feed so far is
still showing the same behavior.

Hi,

Have you tried to remove the feed from the list that is within the file
<profilename>.xml.kfl ?

You can find this file at:

\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook

Please try this and tell me if it works or not.

Ok, I have tried that - I will post back as to whether it works or not.

BTW, the file location that you gave is actually different on Vista.

Thanks,

One of my feeds just downloaded a bunch of month-old content again the other
day. Something interesting that I noticed is that this seems to happen when I
change the network connection that I am using on the computer (this is a
mobile computer).

Thanks,

Hi,

Could you please explain more clearly about "change network connection"? Do
you mean you changed the connection type, for example, from broad band to
dialup or others?

Meanwhile, does feed still on the list of your <profilename>.xml.kfl file?

Hi,

Here's what I mean by change network connection: At home I have a phoneline
network to which I connect using a special network adaptor that I attach to
my computer by USB. At work I connect to the network using my built-in
Ethernet port.

No, the feed is no longer in my kfl file.

Thanks,
I. Kinal

Hi,

I would like to confirm with you if you have used the same Outlook profile
when you work at home. As long as you are using the same Outlook profile,
this should never happen since any feeds added to Outlook are also added
into the file <profilename>.xml.kfl

If this happens when you use the same profile, then please create a new one
to see if this issue can be reproduced.

Meanwhile, please also do the following test:

* Test in Outlook Safe Mode
====================

Outlook Safe Mode can narrow down issues which are caused by any
extensions, corrupted resources, files, registries, or templates.

1. Delete this feed content in Outlook
2. Click Start | Run.
3. In the Open box, type: "Outlook /safe" (without the quotation marks)
Notes: There is a space character between Outlook and the forward slash (/).
4. Click OK.
5. See if the feed is downloaded or not.

Hi,

Sorry for taking so long to respond, but I tried a few things and wanted to
see what happened when I did so.

All of this is happening from within one single profile. I do have two other
Outlook profiles on the computer that I use to connect to two different
Exchange Servers. I noticed that they had all of the same RSS feeds -
presumably from before when I unchecked the use common feeds setting. The
feeds in these profiles did not exhibit this same behavior. However, I only
use those two profiles every now and then, while my main profile is open all
the rest of the time.

I'm not too thrilled with the idea of creating a new profile, but it sounds
like that might be the only way to fix this problem.

Thanks,
I. Kinal

Hi,

Nice to hear you again!

It sounds like that this is the only profile that has this problem. I
think this Outlook profile is either damaged or corrupted.

If you need assistance on creating a new account in Outlook 2007, the
following KB article is for your reference:

829918 How to create a new e-mail profile in Outlook 2007 and in Outlook
2003
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;829918

I aggree that creating a new profile is not an exciting suggestion but
sometimes our choices are limited.

If this issue recurs after you have done this, please feel free to get back
to me and we will do further research for you.

Have a nice day!
