RS485/M BR#23931 boot meesage

I have a DELL Vostro 1000 laptop. The video card is the Integrated ATI
Radeon Xpress 1150 HyperMemory adaptor. SiSoft's system information
diagnostic tool says the adaptor's part/model number is RS485M. Now
when I boot the laptop this number is flashed to the display before
the POST. In addition to the part/model number is a code that reads
BR#23931. Neither DELL tech support nor AMD/ATI tech support seem to
be able to tell me what the second part of this message is or means.
It could be an error message, a revision number, and a serial number,
who knows. What is apparent is that the message is related to the
video card and something in the firmware. I hope someone can share a
similar experience.

Not quite sure what your problem is or what exactly you want to
know.....your post says
"Now when I boot the laptop this number is flashed to the display before
the POST"...is the issue that this message did not appear before? FYI the
part number you reference being displayed is the ECS designation of the ATI
mainboard model number and not a code for a error. DId you modify the BIOS
setting to display the BIOS screen at startup?

No real problem, just looking for information. Right, ths issue is, I
don't remember seeing the message before. Again, it flashes so fast
its easy to miss. It all of a sudden caught my attention and I wanted
to know if this was a real problem. I have not installed any firmware
changes so it must have been this way from the beginning and I never
noticed it. I didn't think it was an error message either but, you
never know. DELL installs a system/hardware diagnostic suite on their
machines which can be used before the machine boots into Windows. The
test suite reports that all is good with the hardware.
