Hello,

I'm using a windows 2000 server with the latest SP + patches. Today
wanting to configure NATting on it I started the RRAS service and
while the service starts fine when I try to expand my server icon in
the RRAS MMC it displays a red x on it. When I get back on the "Server
Status" icon my server icon gets back to being green (the service is
started and working fine). I other words I can't expand my server icon
to see the IP Routing node or to configure new routing interfaces.
Could it be that some required service is down??? What services (apart
RRAS) are required??? The only errors I see in the event log are: (1)
the machine cannot contact a DHCP (is a DHCP server required???) (2)
no certificate could be found (it says that connections that use the
L2TP protocol over IPSec require the installation of a machine
certificare) ... but NATting does not require a certificate I suppose.

Has anyone an idea why I can't see IP Routing and configure any
protocol interface????
Thx.

For configuring RRAS for NATing you shouldn't start RRAS service directly
from Services.msc. Follow these steps:
1. net stop remoteaccess in command shell
2. rrasmgmt.msc
3. right click on the rras node and select configure RRAS.

You should be all set to NAT.
