XP shutting down with the following message every 5
minutes with this message. NT Authority Systems. Remote
Proceedure call RPC service terminated unexpectedly. The
the computer shuts and restarts. Help.
1. Get the MS03-26 patch from
http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=823980
Use a clean machine to download the file and then copy it to a 3.5
inch diskette. It is 1.2 mb so it will fit easily.
2. Boot the infected machine into Safe Mode. Insert the diskette
with the patch and run it. Do not reboot immediately
3. On the infected machine use Start - Run - MSCONFIG and go to the
Startup tab. Locate the entry for MSBLAST.EXE and click on the
checkbox to clear it.
4. Locate the file MSBLAST.EXE and rename or delete it.
5. Make sure your firewall is active and functioning. If you do not
have a firewall program installed the make sure that Windows XP's
built-in firewall is enabled.
Shut down and restart the computer normally. The problem should be
resolved.
Also make sure your antivirus software is fully up to date, with the
latest virus definitions and do a full scan of your computer. Check
daily for new definition files, as not all companies have gotten
updates out yet for this latest infection.
Good luck
