RPC Server Unavailable when adding domain user to local group

I have a Windows 2000 Domain and am running DNS server on the Domain
Controller. The DNS is configured perfectly and all computers
(win2k,xp and 2 windows 2000 member servers) work fine and are able to
be added to domain and i can add domain users to local groups on those
computers.

I have one windows 2000 server computer which i am able to add to the
domain but it will not allow me to add domain users to a local user
group on that computer. I am able to ping the netbios/dns name of the
domain computer from this computer and I only have one dns server
setting on this computer and it is set to the DNS server internally of
course.

i have set up numerous win2k domains and dns and have not had this
problem before.

When i try to add the domain user to local group i get the message
"rpc server unavailable".

I have tried running ipconfig /registerdns and various other little
tricks, have taken it out of the domain and moved it back into the
domain with no luck.

*Usually* this is due to using an ISPs DNS server in your IP properties.
This can cause numerous problems. Make sure your DCs and clients ony use the
internal DNS. For efficient Internet resolution, use a forwarder.

As indicated, I have the DNS server configured correctly and all
workstations and servers including the problem one set up to point to
only the internal DNS server. Otherwise I would have far more
problems than this. :)

Very good then. Well, then it would be unusual for RPC errors to occur if
your configuration is correct. Let's see, here's a couple other questions
(which may or may not help, but just trying to guess at this point):

1. Receiving any Event log errors on this machine or the DC? If so, can you
post the Event ID #'s please?

2. What mode is the domain in?

3. Is this on the same subnet as the DC or on a different subnet, such as
thru NAT? NAT will block RPC, LDAP and Kerberos. VPNs or Routers with H.323
or MTU alterations will cause this too.

4. What SP level?

5. Can you resolve the SRV thru nslookup from this machine?
nslookup
ls -d domain.com
It should come back with the list.
