downgrading is not
possible between o.s.'s

the only exception remotely
similar and perhaps confusing
to some is the sp3 update and
uninstalling it to revert to sp2.

in any case, in order to install
winxp you will need to perform
a complete format of the vista
drive and then reinstall winxp.

the above is absolute, because
the advanced programming and
files of the current operating
system (vista) have to be removed
completely so that the older
programming and files can be
installed (winxp).

(of course if you are upgrading
an o.s. then the newer o.s. will
remove and replace all the older
files automatically via setup.)

there are a couple of other
options as well:

one is to add another
disk to the system as
a slave drive and install
winxp on it, thus you will
have two o.s.'s and can
choose either one to launch.

the other is to utilize a
utility from microsoft.com
called virtual pc.

virtual pc will create an
environment where as you
can switch to winxp from
within vista, and vice versa.

----------------

something to keep in mind
is that if you are considering
installing winxp upgrade version,
you will be required to provide
a full version of an older o.s.
during the winxp upgrade process.

of course, the above doesn't
apply if you have a winxp
full installation.

You can install Vista alongwith XP on seperate partitions and boot the
system that you want. At startup you get the option for using either OS.
