roaming users in home network?

1. What is the best way to have 16 users in a home
network of 5 pc's running WinXP as "roaming users"? Is it
possible?

2. Probably connected with the first question...
When I try to configure the sharing permissions for a
folder, I cannot add a user from a PC connected in the
network. If I click "Add" and then "Locations", it only
shows me my own machine but not the others. Which
settings should I change to be able to include the other
stations of the network and /or a user from another
machine in the sharing permissions?

Thanks a lot in advance.

It sounds like you need to make sure they are all in the
same workgroup

Not in the sense of, you want user X to be able to log into each machine and
have the same profile loaded from a central location. That can be done only
with a domain.

Not possible in a workgroup. There's no centralized security/account
database. You need to add each user & password identically on each machine,
and assign the rights to the local users.

Thanks for your answer, here I have two new ones:

1. Do I need Widows Server to set up a domain or is it
possible to do it with Win XP pro alone? Where can I go
for more information about setting up a domain?

One more question below....

If each user on the machines has identical usr/pwd, and I
make them share their default "My Docs" folder through
the workgroup, but on one machine the option to make the
folder "private" is activated, will it be possible for
that user to acces that folder from another machine with
the same pwd?
Thanks again for your answers.

You need a server OS.....
Where can I go
for more information about setting up a domain?

For a small office, you might want to check out SBS 2003 (Small Business
Server). If you don't have experience working with domains, Active
Directory, etc., you might want to see if you can engage a consultant to set
it up for you and show you how to do the day to day admin tasks. It's really
not hard to maintain if you set it up right to begin with - starting with
good quality server hardware, hardware RAID - automated nightly backups,
antivirus software, and security.

See www.microsoft.com/sbs for more info.

I don't use simple file sharing so I can't answer your question exactly.
However, note that in your scenario, access is controlled by the permissions
assigned to the user account - not the computer.

Buona fortuna!
