There is tons at Microsoft -- and in the help -- but
their really isn't much to them.

You define the location (server\share\directory) in
the AD Users/Computers on the user's property sheet.

You should generally use %username% if you use
the user's name in the directory path (which is the
best way usually.)

The user must have at least CHANGE/Modify on
the share AND the NTFS directory/file permissions,
but Full Control is normal.

Have the user log off and on from their "favorite"
machine which automatically uses their local
profile for the INITIAL profile.

What else do you wish to know?

Just using [ roaming profile ] in the built-in help
gets you a bunch, both locally or on the MS website.

Searching (something like) this at Google:

[ "roaming profile" microsoft: ]

....or...

[ "roaming profile" site:microsoft.com ]

The main question I have is about the location of the profile.
Can it be set up so that the profile stays on the server and user files are
not copied down to a client PC at every log on? Basicly, the My Docs folder
is nothing more than a link or a short cut to the server.

Hi,

Yes and no. The Profile always copies to the local machine on logon.
However, you Can setup Folder Redirection that redirects My Documents
to the Server. Look under Folder Redirection in Group Policy. You can
redirect Start Menu and Desktop as well however the roaming one still
copies to the local machine.

Cheers,

Lara

The normal case is to cache the profiles, but as "lforbes"
has already indicated you can separately specify My
Documents which is the default (containing) location for
the locally cached profile.
Basicly, the My Docs folder
is nothing more than a link or a short cut to the server.

Understand that there are performance issues involved
in each choice -- and for laptop (or server down situations)
there are availability issues.

The very definition of a Roaming Profile is that it downloads the profile
every time you log on. You can minimize the size of the download by
redirecting components and by preventing uploading of components of the
profile, but the basic idea is that the profile is downloaded from the
Roaming Profile location....
