Roaming Profile

R

Ramaswamy

Hello Hope you all had a Happy New Year,

I am trying to configure Roaming User Profiles for my new
users. I am using Windows 2000 Server (Service Pack 3) &
clients vary from Windows XP to Windows 9x. First I am
trying with XP.

I created all working well except the Adminstrator is not
able to access the profile directory & Profile share.

I tried these two documents still not working!!!

1)

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;222043

In this What I dont understand is I should apply this
group policy setting in my CLIENT & SERVER. In server i
changed... in client (if its XP, 2000, Me, 9x what shoudl
I do>) what are the service packs required for these.

2)

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?
url=/technet/prodtechnol/windowsserver2003/proddocs/deploy
guide/dmebc_dsm_ummq.asp

I have put in these security requirments. Its all
working, by just creating the folder, but still not
giving me access to Parent folder //server/profile/
or even local access (if i logged in as administrator @
server itself).

In this link the table 7.7 tells
administrator should have "NONE"
Everyone should have "NO PERMISSION"
(what is the diff between NONE & NO PERMISSION)

Local System & everyone listed in table 7.7 are
group/user. There is no group/user as local system only
system is available!!!!

in table 7.8 Everyone has NO permissions ? what is
that... I removed Everyone is it correct?

in table 7.9
After making all this permissions & make a client
logon!!! As an Administrator I cant access the parent
folder \\server\profile or access it locally as well
e\;\profile

it say no rights!!!! (I have enabled the group policy @
Server ONLY!!!!)
So How can I configure this table 7.9 permissions in all
the romaing profile I create???? Is not it suppose to be
automatic with %username% thats the whole Idea I guess...

hehh :)

Any Clues where I am going wrong, would be of great help.
Thanks in advance
Cheers

I'm not very familiar with that particular hotfix, but what you have
described would be expected behavior in Windows 2000, as well as 2003, for
profiles which are created by the system at initial user logon.

To gain access you would need to take ownership, assign your account the
needed permissions, then assign ownership back to the user.

Or, there is a group policy that causes the system to create roaming
profiles with access allowed to administrators. It's under Computer
Configuration - Administrative Templates - System - User Profiles.
Enable "Add the Administrators security group to roaming user profiles".
