RJ45 Ethernet Cable

Simon

I have 2 computer and i want to set-up a LAN so i can play multiplayer games
both computers are running Win XP home edition

one machine has a (sis 900 pci fast Ethernet adapter) the other one has a
(via
Rhine II fast Ethernet adapter)

So my question is do i just need a RJ45 Ethernet Cable to connect them? or
do i need to also get something else?

You need a twisted-pair Etherned cable (RJ45 with different wiring on both
ends). This is the only way to connect two computers using Ethernet. If you
think you will need to connect more PCs to your network latter, then a
better solution is to purchase a switch, or a hub, and wire each PC to the
switch/hub with a standard (not twisted) Ethernet cable.

You need a Crossover cable. Connects any CAT5 application
such as computer to computer

Using a regular RJ45 cable will not work if you are
connecting the two computers togeather without the use of
any other device. The twisted pair cable is used only
with hubs, switches etc. You need to purchase or make a
crossover cable. This will allow you to connect one lan
card directually to another.
