Rise of Nations Gold Installation

I have a problem installing RoN:Gold. The first cd worked fine when
installing but after it prompts for the second disc and I put that disc in,
the installation would not continue. It seems that my cd/dvd-rw drive could
not read the second disc, because the icon does not show up in My Computer.
At first I thought it was just the disc, so i went to the store and got it
replaced, but I still got the same problem.

Hi Rondillo,

If you have two CD/DVD units installed on your system, try installing
the game from the other device instead.

I only have one device, and everything else works just fine on it. Its just
the second disc of the game that doesn't read. Also I tried it on another
computer and it works there.

Hi Rondillo,

Let's try a couple of things to get that installed for you:

1. Startup your system in SAFE MODE by pressing F8 repeatedly
while your system is booting up after you've shut down your system

2. Log in with an account you've created as a "Computer Administrator"
account that you'll use to play the game, but don't use a Limited account.

nope. It still did not work. As usual, the first disc installed fine, but
second disc did not load up at all.

Hi Rondillo,

There's a fix for CD autoplay issues, which *might* provide a solution:

Hi Rondillo,

I'm glad you appreciate our efforts. :) At this point though, perhaps

Hmmm. I've already done a reformat of my whole computer and started out
fresh. Would that count as repairing Windows XP?

Hi Rondillo,

How long ago did you reformat your whole computer and start fresh?

About 2 days ago. After I gave up searching for the problem, I did a reformat
as a last resort hoping that my game would work . But it didn't fix it, so I
seeked help.

Hi Rondillo,

Interesting .. I'm going to have to do some digging to see what I can find.
I'll post back with any findings. Others may feel free to do the same. :)

I guess i'm hopeless... *sigh*
The good news is that I can still play it on the other computer and have
been and now I'm a bit tired of playing it, so no worries about trying to
install it to mine. : )
