RIS problem

I am haveing a problem with winXp pro and RIS. I can
boot it of the network, partition it, and then it copies
the files from a cd-based image with sp1 slipstreamed. The
problem I am haveing is once the files are copied and it
reboots and starts to load windows for the first time it
hangs. It will work if I use a actual xp cd but if I use
ris it hangs. I know that the image works because I can
push it to all of the older machines in the network
without a problem. We are using dell 450, 4100, and
8200's. I have even tried using a flat file image of just
the cd without any service packs. This is occuring on 25
machines we just got them in from another campus location
where they were not using RIS before. Any help would be
appreciated.

Hi Jay,

Does it hang at the "Setup is starting Windows.." screen?

RIS Setup Stops Responding at "Setup is Starting Windows" Screen

"Stop 0x0000006b" or Setup Stops Responding at "Setup is Starting Windows"
When You Install a Windows XP SP1 Client Image from a RIS Server

If those two articles don't help, please write back with the exact error
message from the client screen.

Actually there is no error message. It goes thru
the "setup is starting windows" and configures
everything. Then it restarts again for the first time
that windows is actually fully starting and hangs on the
windows xp splash screen with the moving cursor at the
bottom of the screen. I believe it is a network card
issue because I can boot the machines in safe mode without
network support. The weird thing is I have several other
machines that have the same network cards in them and they
work fine. They Are 3com 3c905txm cards. More then
likely they are different revision numbers but they should
be using the same drivers. I am going to attempt to flash
the bios for the machines and the network cards to see if
that has any affect. Any other help would be appreciated.

Let me know if the BIOS and nic rom flash solves the problem.

Also, are there any event log errors when you boot the RIS client into Safe
Mode?

Got the problem fixed. It seems that the ao9 bios fixes
the problem on it. There wasnt a rom update for the nic
card. And there were no errors in the event viewer except
for the ones cause by safe mode. So it seems it had to do
with the pci bus and how the bios handles it. The
machines had everything from the a01 to a08 bios installed
on them which I cant figure out... we got these machines
from a off site campus location and someone else was
taking care of them. But everything works now and I thank
you for your help.
