RIS - it's dead! Please help us :(

Our Domain Controller somehoe lost file and printer sharing for some
reason...

We lost all of our shares and RIS.

We put the shares back but RIS just wasn't there.

So we uninstalled RIS using Add/Remove, but before uninstalling we renamed
the remoteinstall folder to remoteinstall1 to preserve our precious images.

We reinstalled RIS to get it running again, so it's there, but no images.

We tried to rename remoteinstall1 back to remoteinstall, but got sharing
violations. We also tried dumping the contents from remoteinstall1 to
remoteinstall, but that failed with errors too. We even stopped the SIS and
BINLSVC services hoping that would help, but no luck.

So now RIS still doesn't see any of our images even though they're there in
that remoteinstall1 folder...

Help! What do we do?!?!?

Thanks a million in advance for any help...

You are just dumping the images into the Remoteinstall folder from
RemoteInstall1, right? I don't think you want to copy the other
directories.

This article may be helpful:

There may be a hint in here, I would look at the part about the new volume
must have the same name and drive letter:

After you re-add the RIS services from "Add/Remove"
Reboot. Then add a new Windows 2000 base image. Next
restore your images back down to your Remoteinstall
directory. Remember the services need to be running to
have this work correctly.

One other note make sure your base image has the same SP
as your images. Or your images wont work.

Next go to a command line and run risetup.exe, select to
verify the server for any errors, and you should be good
to go.

I just restored my RIS server and all my images are
working correctly.

Good Luck
