Hello, sorry if this sounds like a "dummy" question, I'm a neophyte to the
world of computer video.
Is it possible to copy the video from a DVD to a VCD (obviously with a lot
of compression), or to a format with which one put it on a Pocket PC? (Still
much more compressed).
I know how to encode video to those different formats, but with various
software I have, including Windows Movie Maker 2, Windows Media Encoder, and
some other software, I cannot see a way to copy video from a DVD (as one can
do with music from a CD, for example), on order to then compress it into a
different format.
Is it that there is such a strong copy-protection on all DVDs, that it's
impossible to copy the video from it at all, even if one is going to save it
into a lower quality format, not copy onto another DVD? Or am I not using
the right software, or not doing the right things with the software I have.
If it's possible to do this, could anyone explain how?
(Sorry to have posted this to several newsgroups (all relevant to this
question), but I didn't know on which newsgroup someone might read who could
help with the answer. Also, it is a question that might interest many, on
different newsgroups.)
