Rights Management

I consider myself to have a better than average knowledge on computers and
software, but I came across something today that I have not encountered
before. A co-worker tried to forward me an email message, but everytime she
tried to forward the message the message body would disapear leaving just
the original senders signature. I have not seen this before so I did some
quick searches through the Outlook help files and came across IMR, or
Information Rights Management.

I'm not asking for information about how to defeat this, although feel free
to do so if you wish, I am looking for information on how to use IMR so I
can learn more about it myself. Although the help file says that it should
already be installed because I am running Outlook 2007 on a Vista machine, I
do not seem to have it available to me. In searching further it looks as
though it may only work in conjunction with Windows Server 2003, of which I
know nothing about other than I'm sure I'm not using it.

Any information you can provide would be helpful.

Thanks, Spence

You can use a passport account with it, unless you want to run your own RM
server. It also available with outlook 2003. It's only in the "higher"
versions of office - pro or enterprise.

On an new message form, on the Options chunk of the Message ribbon, do you
see a little envelope icon with a red circle - it should be beside or above
the importance icons (! & down arrow) .

office online article about it.

Diane, thank you for the quick reply. I am running Office Professional
2007. I do not have the icon on the message ribbon that your link showed.
I earlier today searched through the buttons for the quick access toolbar
and found that icon for Permissions and added it to my QAT. Unfortunately
the button stays greyed out on the QAT.

Can you elaborate on what a 'passport account' is. I use Outlook with a POP
email account I have through Register.com

Thanks, Spence

Microsoft passport - now called live id. Used for instant messenger, for
many people its their hotmail or msn address.

In 2007, you need pro plus (or ultimate or enterprise) for RM -
