Right mouse click hangs system

After installing SP1a the right mouse click causess the system to hang. Cannot use right mouse to display drop down menus for deleting, move, etc. Also cannot delete from folders view. Right click works within software but not in Windows Explorer. Have tried everything except large sledgehammer.

Rt. click Start > Properties > Customize > Advanced (tab) >
in scroll box, select Enable dragging and dropping > OK out.

Strange, but true!

I have never read the suggestion from Bee, but if it doesn't help try this.
(below) it has helped me before, some of the time.

Right click hang
Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 819101
Temporary Decline in Performance Occurs When You Right-Click a File or
Folder in Windows Explorer

When you right-click a file or folder in Windows Explorer, the CPU usage
goes to 100 percent while the shortcut menu is displayed. CPU usage returns
to the correct level when the shortcut menu is closed.
To work around this behavior, use either of the following methods.
Method 1
Turn off the transition effects for menus and ToolTips. To do this, follow
these steps:
Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
In Control Panel, double-click Display, and then click the Appearance tab.
On the Appearance tab, click Effects.
In the Effects dialog box, click to clear the "Use the following transition
effect for menus and tooltips" check box, and then click OK two times.
Method 2
Click the folder or file that you want (select it) before you right-click it
to display the shortcut menu.

You can double click My Computer..go to control panel..then Taskbar and
Start Menu Properties.

Thanks for your prompt response. Small problem, since the first thing you
say to do is to "right click start" I am already dead in the water (can't
right click start). So (I am sure this is a very dumb question) how do I
get to "Properties"?

I see. So, it is not a case of Rt. clicking producing a decimated menu ("
for deleting, move, etc.") and freeze, but no menu at all and freeze. I
wish there had been a more precise use of the language. "I don't have a
bag" is not the same as "I don't have a bag for fruits". The latter implies
there is a bag but not for fruits. The "also cannot delete from folders
view" statement reinforces the view that the context menu is present but is
incomplete I am glad you have now cleared up the confusion so created, viz.
the understandable misunderstanding of the first three sentences out of the
maximum total of five.
