Right click "open with" question

Using Vista64 --
I mistakenly added an install file instead of the ,exe file for Real Player
to the right-click Open With menu which appears for movie-type files. I was
able to add the correct run file but cannot figure out how to remove the
install file which, on the Open With Menu, is titled "Shell executable of
setup program." I don't recall the actual file name that I added to the
menu. Also appearing on this Open With Menu are Quick Time and Windows Media
Player. I wanted Real Player as a choice too. Can you tell me how to get
rid of the "Shell executable..." file from this menu? I looked in MS
Support files but the only one I could find related to OSs other than Vista
(or XP). Appreciate any help you can offer.
Thanks,

Kathy,

You should see RealPlayer come up in your "Open With..." dialog if you are to right-click on a media file of some sort;
example: mp3, wma, etc.

As far as removing products from the "Open With.." dialog, I have never been successful in doing. From what I understand,
the "Open With.." dialog gives you the choices best suited for the specified file, using the most recent programs that you
have used to open that type of file with. This is just my understanding. Whether it is right or not, can be corrected or
validated by someone who may know more about it than myself.

You could maybe do search of the registry for a string like ' Shell
executable '
and see if any entry ties in with your problem; (that is if you feel ok
looking around in the registry).

Or this free utility may help:

http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shell_menu_view.html

When you run the program you can double-click on the column
headers to list alphabetically.

If you are not happy poking around in the registry this app
might be safer - you can disable entries from here.
Thanks for trying to help Dave. I did check out the nirsoft site but the
shell menu program doesn't work with Vista. So I did try searching the
Registry for "shell executable" but didn't find anything. Rats, I just hate
when I make stupid mistakes.
