Revisit "Add or Remove Programs" has large blank space!

I have this problem (the large black and white area in the middle of the "Add
or Remove Progrms" dialog) on my system also. I have read many complaints of
this problem on these pages, but,so far, no definitive solution(s). I do not
have AutoCad installed. Do the fixes listed on Kelly's webpage, and
elsewhere, fix this problem generally or are they specific to AutoCad?

Also, the registry key listed and the removal of the -1 in the DisplayIcon
key solution are a little unclear. Again, does this apply specifically to
AutoCAD?

Maybe I am missing something here, but I don't see a solution for anything
but AutoCAD installations.

I am using Win XP SP2.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

I have this problem also, and posted on it yesterday. Huge blank space,
never had autocad installed. I actually came back here to get a little
clarification myself, so I am glad you wrote this. Kelly replied in my post
yesterday that I should remove the last entry from that part of the registry.
But what I was wondering - should I remove the last overall entry or the
last strange numerical one with the {} around it...

Yes, she has as specific fix for autocad, and instructions for resolving
the issue otherwise, Line 226 right hand side:

That's the last program in the add/remove program list before the white
space.

I am not sure either. My last registry entry in the that section is for Movie
Maker 2 and has no -1 and I am hesitant to remove it. Movie Maker 2 was not
installed when this problem began. In fact, I have installed and uninstalled
many programs since I first noticed the blank area. (Which may be part of my
problem.) Perhaps Kelly, or someone, could be a little more specific in their
explanation, as this isn't as clear as it might seem (to me, anyway).

And, I have to add, to Kelly and others who spend time in these forums
helping us out, your help is very much appreciated.

It caused by a negative index for an icon. Just delete the icon line.

In the registry, at least for file associations, a positive icon index specifies that icon in the file. An index of three is get the third icon in the file. A negative number is the actual number of the icon in the file. -100 is the icon with that number (it does not imply there are 100 icons in the file). Think of this as a name, eg -100 means use the icon in the file with the name 100.

The only thing in Add/Remove that has to be there is the uninstall string. Windows will guess everything else (sometimes wrongly).
