Reviews on Anti-Virus?????Confussing as H***!!!!!

B

Boojaw

I have used three different anti-virus programs and all three SUCK!!!!
I first used McAfee and it gave me nothing but head ackes. It kept
trying to sign me up for something or other to buy and it was soooooo
slow on scanning my computer. Also it missed a few worms and deleted
something and I had to reinstall Windows and start over from scrach.
Heard that Trend Micro PCcillion was a great program. Installed it and
it slowed my computer down to a crawl. Also it would not download the
updates and when I gave them a call they did not know what to do, kind
of sounded like they were reading from the manual. By the time I had
messed around with this program I had a trojan horse on my computer. I
got Nortan Anti-Virus 2005 it is slow to scan, takes 1 to 2 hours to
scan my computer and I have to reactivate it once a week. Called them
about the reactivation and they lead me around and around. I swear my
hair is starting to fall OUT!!!!!
I have looked at reviews on all different anti-virus. Someone raves
about a program but someone else says it destroy their computer. Does
anyone know of a anti-virus program that does just what it is supposed
to do?? I have a Dell 5100 Inspiron with Windows XP Home Edition and
would like a anti-virus program that runs on it with out problems.
PLEASE!!!HELP!!

Thank You Boojaw

No AV will protect you from yourself.I have written some pages to help
you learn how to keep your system free from malware.About your AV
trouble, perhaps you need to install more RAM and change your surfing
habits. After you get it cleaned up try NOD32. After your last install
of windows, did you have a AV and firewall up and running before
connecting to the internet?

NEVER download files from anywhere unless it is from the website of the
developer, manufacturer or some entity you trust. The developers
websites ALWAYS have the most up to date files that haven't been
tampered with by some third party who is "hosting"(read Leeching or
Stealing) those files without permission.

I second the recommendation for NOD32. It updates very
regularly, uses very low resources and has stopped more than
one Trojan from doing any damage to my system.

I was frustrated too. I tried Super Ad Blocker and it was great. It got
rid of a trojan that a bunch of the others didn't "see".

I use only on-line scans......based on the assumption that there are more
chances of catching any Malware. Also, they only slow your computer down
WHEN YOU CHOOSE TO START IT UP!

Bit Defender, Symantec and Kapersky are doing a good job. Stay away from
Trend, Mcaffee and Panda.

I did have AV and firewall up before I went online. But I could not get
Trend to download updates and Nortan kept de-activating itself. I am
using Windows XP firewall. Should I have another one running? Where can
I find NOD32? Staples and Office Depot did not have it. I know I can
purchase it online and download it but I really like to have hard disk
of the programs I am running on my computer.

Thank you all so much for the information and advise you provided. : )

You should be using a firewall that monitors both in/outbound
connections. Windows Firewall only stops incoming.I use Sygate Personal
Firewall(software).A hardware firewall is best.
NOD32 is not available on disk-You could always burn it.

news and this one came in 6th December I've pasted below part of the text.

I just went to the link and it opens in a page at NOD32 and you have to
input where you want to find the partners, either by county/postcode or
town and it's for UK based partners so maybe anyone wanting to know more
can go to NOD32 home page and find what they need <g>
