Revert to IE6 from IE7 beta2

B

Bozo

Anyone know how to uninstall IE7 Beta 2 and go back to IE6. I dont'
like Beta2. Major problem is Favorites. Can't hide it, like IE6, on the
side. Must start over each time you switch.

Also the Taskbar can't be edited to keep Favorites available after F11
full screen.

Hello Bozo,

1. Open up the Control Panel
2. Click Add/Remove Programs
3. Check the box at the top of the window for "Show Updates"
4. Scroll in the Add/Remove Programs window till you see the entry for IE7.
5. Click Uninstall
6. Install Mozilla Firefox 1.5.01 (optional) ;-)

Hi Bryan :)

It is a problem that is happening to many testers. And all IE7 Beta 2
Public Preview testers are being asked to post their comments, questions and
problems regarding IE7 to the following newsgroup. The folks there
specialize in helping you with problems such as yours and others specific to
the Beta 2 program, and the IE7 Beta team is also assisting in this group
and anxious to hear of your experience and comments. Even if someone here
decides to try and assist you, *please* post your question, comment and/or
problems to this newsgroup for the benefit of the IE7 Beta team and other
readers there;

Thank you Jan, but I believe it was Mr. Bozo who had the issue. I was merely
assisting his situation.

Jan II,
I have submitted my concerns to the comments site for Beta 2. I asked
how to revert to IE6. They had no comment. They only directed me to an
IE6 group.

I appreciate that you are "anxious to hear" of our responses. What we
(I) need are actual, helpful responses.

I don't like Beta 2. I want IE6 back. HOW?

Hi Bozo :)

Try the following and see if it helps. If not, then you will need to
reinstall IE. In doing that, you will likely encounter a message that says
it cannot be installed as a newer version is already installed. If
so....the see the fix at the botton of this message.

Uninstalling IE7 B2P will take you back to IE6.

First try uninstalling IE7 B2P via Add/Remove Programs. (Make sure Show
Updates box is checked)

If IE7 isn't found there, try the following, compiled by/courtesy of MVP
Sandi Hardmeier:

Run the commandline

%windir%\$NtUninstallie7bet2p$\spuninst\spuninst.exe

(replace %windir% with the path to your Windows folder, most often
c:\windows). Make sure view hidden folders is enabled via Control Panel,
Folder Options.

or

Go to the key

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer

Right click on Internet Explorer > New String Value > Name that value
InstalledByUser (the value of the new String should be your User Account
name) > Uninstall IE7 via Add/Remove Programs.

Fix or "Newer version already installed:"

Kelly's site has a fix which changes the IsInstalled flag value to 0. =

For SP1 -
This enables reinstallation of IE.
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/ieinstall.reg

Just download and double-click, then proceed to reinstal IE.

For SP2 -
If you have SP2, you will first have to uninstall it. Then run the utility
as descripbed above.
Ieinstall.reg simply makes the registry edit that's called for in the 2nd
half of

or ..

Hope this helps.
