Reveiving/ Sending emails

Windows mail is not downloading from my pop3 account, when I first set it up
it worked fine, now the emails are no longer being received, I've checked my
email from the website itself so I know I have email to be downloaded. I do
not get any error messages. When trying to send an email I get this error.....

The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the
"I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining
the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

The rejected e-mail address was '(e-mail address removed)'. Subject 'test',
Account: 'netzero.com', Server: 'authsmtp.netzero.com', Protocol: SMTP,
Server Response: '450 smtpout02.vgs.untd.com Authentication required', Port:
25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 450, Error Number: 0x800CCC78

I've checked the online documents for setting up my email with windows mail
and everything is correct.

Does your connection to that server cross over from one internet provider's
equipment to another's before it reaches the server? If so, such
connections to
port 25 are often blocked to cause problems for spammers, and you need to
ask Netzero if you have the option to use some other port instead, and if
so,
where to find their instructions for switching to the other port. Just
trying all
the ports is a very slow way to find out, since there are about 65,000 ports
available and it's unlikely that more than a few of them will accept
outgoing
mail.

See if this is the online document you followed:

http://www.netzero.net/support/email/email-setup-msoex6.html

It was written for Outlook Express, but should also work under Windows
Mail if it doesn't call for the HTTP protocol.

That error message doesn't pertain to receiving mail, so if you still
have a problem with that, click on the triangle to the right of
Send/Receive,
then Receive Only, and see if you get a different error message to show
us.

To fix your send error, go to Tools, Accounts, select that mail account,
Properties, Servers, and make sure "My server requires authentication"
is checked.

Thanks for you help, I can now send emails I didn't have the "My server
requires authentication" box checked.

It's now downloading emails...once again...I haven't changed any setting for
that, works one day and not the other, I'm going to follow up with that one
the next time it stops downloading again....

Check again, especially for anything is says about authentication.

http://www.netzero.net/support/email/email-setup-msoex6.html

These instructions were written for Outlook Express, but should
also work under Windows Mail if they don't call for the HTTP
protocol. If your incorrect setting is one they didn't mention
because the correct value is also the default value, you may
have to remove your email account under Windows Mail, then
restart Windows Mail and add the account again.
