Return Read Receipt Loop Madness

Hello All,

I am having a problem with Outlook 2003 and return read receipts that I
was hoping some MS gurus might have an answer for. We use an offsite
PoP3 server for mail (no exchange). Some users check mail from
multiple locations or have it synced to their Treo's. To do this they
have "Leave a copy of messages on the server" checked "Until deleted
from deleted items" folder. This works fine except for when they
receive a message with a return read receipt request. When this
happens the user will continue to get a copy of the message everytime
they check their mail, even after deleted from the inbox and deleted
items folder. They only way to get rid of the loop is to turn off
leave a copy on the server and do a send/receive. I was able to check
the actual mail files on the POP3 server and there aren't multiple
copies in the user mail files. The multiples are only in Outlook. Its
like it doesn't recognize that it has downloaded the message.

Has anyone else experienced this and if so how did you resolve?

Thanks,
Bill B

thanks i will try that. for some goofball reason you have to call MS
to get the hotfix. spent 20 minutes on the phone with India, then
right before they connected me with Office Support the connection
broke....yay! you wouldn't happen to have the hotfix file?

"... issue is fixed in the Outlook 2003 post-Service Pack 1 Hotfix Package
...."

Office is up to Service Pack 2 now (released 9/27/2005). That hotfix was
*post*-SP1, dated 9/13/2004 (a year earlier), and should be in SP2 and SP3.

when you need to call.... but in this case, it's in a publicly available
patch

Call 1-800-936-4900 (press 3 for hotfixes) and tell them you're calling to
obtain the hotfix described in KB [number] and they should fix you right up.

I was wondering if it was. I thought so.
