Retrieving data from word documents

Hi, We have years of accumulated equipment knowledge accumulated in our
service engineers reports, all written in same report.doc format.

What is the best way of retrieving these data in to an Access database?
Shall I convert the word document to XML format ? before I can make use of
the old but valid data?

You did not post an example of your data. I move many document through
Excel. It is all according to the document format.
Does each report format have headers or numbering for the sections?
1. Equipment ID - SAR1234
2. Fail Date - 11/2/2007
3. Fail Item - Ignition Switch
4. Part Number - 546390-7645
5. Repair Hours - 2.3
You can format this into fields in Excel.

But not this --
On 11/2/2007 SAR1234 Ignition Switch failed.Replaced part number 546390-7645
in 2 hours and thirty minutes.
